Roy has recently completed filming the role of ‘Joe Collett’ in CALL THE MIDWIFE for the BBC.
Prior to this he completed a hugely successful run playing the role of ‘Henry Ormonroyd’ in WHEN WE ARE MARRIED at The Garrick Theatre, London.
Roy’s other recent television roles include ‘Frank Hardwick’ in ASHES TO ASHES and ‘Jack Croft’ in MISSING for the BBC. Other TV credits include LITTLE DORRIT, ‘Barry Rooney’ in NEW TRICKS and ‘The Music Hall Proprietor’ in THE AMAZING MISS NIGHTINGALE all for the BBC. He also played series regular ‘Archie Shuttleworth’ in CORONATION STREET for 4 years.
Roy’s career began in the late 1950’s with seasons at Richmond Theatre, The Young Vic and Regents Park. His Television career began with BBC’s notorious NOT SO MUCH A PROGRAMME MORE A WAY OF LIFE which lead to countless appearances in entertainment and drama productions.
In 2003 Roy was awarded an OBE in the New Year’s Honour for his continued contribution to entertainment.
